BLEEDING GUMS ARE NOT NORMAL.

If your gums bleed when you brush or floss, your body may be trying to tell you something.

Many people assume bleeding gums are normal, especially when flossing. However, healthy gums generally shouldn’t bleed with gentle brushing or flossing.

What could bleeding gums mean?

Gingivitis: The earliest stage of gum disease, often caused by plaque buildup along the gumline.

Periodontitis: If gingivitis progresses, it can damage the tissues and bone supporting your teeth, potentially leading to tooth loss.

Other causes: Brushing too aggressively, beginning a new flossing routine, certain medications, and underlying health conditions can also contribute to bleeding.

A Jeffersonville native, former University of Kentucky soccer player, and self-proclaimed golf & fishing enthusiast, Dr. Brad loves what he does most because he gets to create meaningful change and make a lasting difference in his patients’ lives—one smile at a time.
