🦷 A little trip back in dental history!

During our visit to Kimberley, South Africa, we discovered Dr Osborne’s dental room from 1904!

Looking at the old dental chair, instruments and toothpastes, it’s fascinating to see how much dentistry has evolved over the past 122 years.

Today, we’re fortunate to have modern technology and a greater focus on prevention, comfort and making dental visits a positive experience for our little patients. ❤️

How different do you think a visit to the dentist was back then?

Most children can start brushing their own teeth around age 6, but they still need help and supervision.

🦷 A good rule: If they can tie their own shoelaces well, they may have the coordination to brush effectively — usually around 7–8 years old.

🦷 A child usually loses their first milk tooth around 5–7 years old.

The lower front teeth are often the first to go. As the permanent tooth develops underneath, the roots of the milk tooth gradually dissolve, making it loose until it eventually falls out.

✨ It’s a normal and exciting milestone — the start of their permanent smile! ❤️
