Mpox Key Facts
Mpox is a viral illness causing a distinctive rash, which can appear as firm or rubbery blister-like lesions. These may last 2-4 weeks.
• Common symptoms: rash, fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.
• Recovery time: Most people recover within 2-4 weeks. Transmission in South Africa: Mostly through close skin-to-skin contact, often during sexual encounters.
• Diagnosis: Laboratory confirmation via PCR testing of skin lesion material.
• Prevention: Avoid physical contact with anyone who has Mpox.
