Revisiting Wrights Dental Congress 2026

Here are a few moments from the Wrights Dental Congress 2026, where I presented on: Why Clear Aligners Work: The Biology, Biomechanics, and the Future of Clear Aligners.

Clear aligners are often thought of as a cosmetic treatment, but the process is much more considered than simply straightening teeth.

To move teeth safely and predictably, clinicians need to understand the biology of tooth movement, the forces involved, and the planning behind every stage.

In growing patients, we need to understand the bigger picture: jaw development, breathing, airway, oral habits and function.

These foundations influence how teeth erupt and how the smile develops over time.

For me, this is where orthodontics is moving.

The mindset behind patient care.

Some of the most important lessons I bring into dentistry were learned through training.

This case started with a childhood thumb-sucking habit.

Although the habit had stopped years earlier, it left behind a tongue thrust.

That meant the tongue pushed forward on every swallow, helping the mouth create a seal while the bite remained open.
Over time, that pattern continued to keep the front teeth apart.

With Myobrace®, we worked on retraining the swallow and improving oral rest posture. Once that forward pressure was reduced, the front teeth had the opportunity to erupt more naturally into position.

This took two years of consistent wear and structured monitoring, one step at a time, in the right order.

You may also notice enamel discolouration on the front teeth.

This will be addressed in time with Icon resin infiltration and composite bonding, once the bite and eruption have fully settled.
