Dental Caries & Cavities: The Sneaky Sugar Bugs! ✨🦷

Dental caries (that’s the fancy name for cavities!) happen when sugar-loving bacteria in the mouth get a little too comfortable. These bacteria feed on sugary foods and drinks and produce acid that slowly wears away tooth enamel, creating tiny holes in the teeth. If left untreated, cavities can grow bigger and may cause pain, sensitivity, or infection.

How are cavities treated?
Depending on how big the cavity is, treatment may include gentle fillings, protective crowns, or other child-friendly dental care to stop the damage and keep the tooth strong. At Pe’Teeth Dental Studio, treatments are always done with care, comfort, and little smiles in mind.

The best part? Cavities are preventable!
Brushing twice a day, flossing daily, drinking water, limiting sugary snacks and fizzy drinks, and visiting the dentist every 6 months all help keep sugar bugs away. Treatments like fissure sealants and regular cleanings add extra protection for growing teeth.

Fizzy drinks and sodas might be bubbly and fun, but they can be tough on little teeth! These drinks are packed with sugar and acid — a double trouble combo for growing smiles. The sugar feeds cavity-causing bacteria, while the acid slowly weakens tooth enamel, making teeth more likely to get cavities and sensitivity. Even sugar-free fizzy drinks can cause damage because of the acid hiding inside!

The good news? You don’t have to ban bubbles forever. Try keeping fizzy drinks as an occasional treat, encourage water in between, use a straw to limit contact with teeth, and wait about 30 minutes before brushing after a fizzy drink to protect enamel.
