Dr Coetzee’s philosophy of dentistry:
I endeavour to see each patient as a whole person, not just as a mouth full of teeth or an isolated problem. I find pleasure in establishing overall health, rather than just patching up a problem tooth.
I aim to listen to my patients and try to address their immediate need but always taking the whole mouth and person into consideration thereby offering advice on the establishment of health and longevity rather than always playing catchup.

Brush up on some Dental Procedures:

If you google dental procedures, you are sure to see these mentioned.
Root Canal Treatment:
A root canal treatment is a dental procedure to remove inflamed or infected pulp on the inside of the tooth which is then carefully cleaned and disinfected, then filled and sealed. Root canal treatment is designed to eliminate bacteria from the infected root canal, prevent reinfection of the tooth and save the natural tooth.
Dental Implants:
A dental implant is a prosthesis that interfaces with the bone of the jaw or skull to support a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge, denture, or facial prosthesis or to act as an orthodontic anchor.
Crowns:
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap. Dentists use crowns to restore weak, broken or decayed teeth. A crown fits over your entire tooth, like a snug hat. To ensure a proper fit, a dentist will need to remove a small amount of enamel before bonding your new crown in place.
Bonding:
Dental bonding involves applying a tooth-coloured composite resin material to change the shape, size or colour of your teeth.
Dentures:
Dentures are removable oral appliances that replace missing teeth. There are many types of dentures, including full, partial and implant-supported dentures.
Bridges:
Dental bridges replace missing teeth. They can restore chewing function, enhance your appearance and improve your oral health. A dental bridge consists of crowns (that fit over your natural teeth on either side of the space) and artificial teeth (that “bridge the gap” in your smile).
Dental Veneers:
A dental veneer is a wafer-thin piece of ceramic/porcelain shell that is bonded onto the tooth. This makes them a popular choice when it comes to fixing dental irregularities.
The good news is that they are all performed by our Dental Surgeon.

What You Need to Know About Dental Treatments and Pregnancy:

Oral health is important during pregnancy for a few reasons. Research shows that oral health can affect the length of pregnancy.
In addition, gum disease has also been linked to infants with a low birth weight.
Mothers who have poor oral health, such as untreated cavities and gum disease, can also transmit bacteria from their mouth to their baby, which could predispose their baby to tooth decay and gum disease.

Can You Get Your Teeth Cleaned While Pregnant?

Teeth cleanings are safe to receive during pregnancy. In fact, getting your teeth professionally cleaned is one of the best ways to lower your risk for gum disease and keep your teeth healthy throughout your pregnancy.

Can You Get a Tooth Pulled While Pregnant?

Yes, you can get a tooth extraction while pregnant. Local anesthesia is safe to receive during pregnancy, and this is the only anesthesia needed for an extraction.

When Is the Best Time to Get Dental Treatments When Expecting?

Although most dental procedures are safe to perform during pregnancy, especially preventative care such as teeth cleanings and exams, experts generally agree that the best time to receive treatment is during the second trimester of pregnancy, which is generally from week 13 to week 26. Based on your oral health concerns, your dentist will advise you when the best time to receive treatments is.

Veneers are thin, custom-made shells made from porcelain or resin composite materials. They’re bonded to the front of your teeth to correct imperfections such as discolouration, chips, or gaps, creating a naturally beautiful look.

Are veneers right for You?

Laser dentistry! State of the art dentistry...

"Lasers have brought a whole new dimension to modern dentistry. I use two dental lasers, the Epic 940 nm Diode Laser and the all-tissue Waterlase. They have numerous applications for any soft tissue surgery, bleaching, gum depigmentation, biopsies, deep disinfection, endodontic procedures, promoting healing and so much more. I can also perform some of the minimally invasive treatment modalities on the hard tissue."
