Refined: A Smile Back in Harmony

Sometimes the earliest signs of change show up where you least expect them: in a young smile. This patient came to JJS Dentistry in Cape Town noticing her front teeth had started to lose some of their brightness and shape, and that her gums took up more of her smile than she wanted.

We began with a gum lift, rebalancing the relationship between her teeth, gums and lips. Then came cosmetic bonding to restore colour, freshen the surface and gently refine the shape of each tooth.

Why bonding and not porcelain veneers? For younger patients, bonding is often the kinder choice. It’s far less invasive, preserving healthy natural tooth structure for the decades ahead. We don’t use it often, but when it’s indicated, it’s the right call.

The result: a smile in harmony with the rest of her face.

Troy Adams is our in-house dental technician and the designer and crafter behind these smile makeovers at JJS Dentistry. Using digital smile design software, he plans each smile around the patient’s face, lips and natural tooth proportions before any treatment begins.

From composite bonding and porcelain veneers to crowns and guides for precise dental implant placement, every result is planned digitally and then handcrafted with care.

Titanium dental implants are biocompatible and among the most studied materials in modern dentistry. The metal itself is not what makes an implant fail. When failure does happen, the usual factors are bacterial buildup around the implant (peri-implantitis) and mechanical forces like bite load or positioning that were not fully accounted for before placement.
