🦷 IMPACTED WISDOM TEETH
Impacted wisdom teeth occur when there isn’t enough space for the tooth to erupt normally, causing it to become partially or completely trapped in the gums or jawbone.
⚠️ What makes impacted wisdom teeth concerning is that they may cause no pain for a long time while silently damaging your oral health.
If left unchecked, impacted wisdom teeth may lead to:
• Tooth decay in the wisdom tooth and the neighboring second molar
• Gum inflammation, swelling, and infection
• Gum disease and bone loss around the teeth
• Jaw pain, swelling, or difficulty opening your mouth
• In some cases, cysts can develop around the tooth
>>>No pain doesn’t always mean no problem.
🩺 How can it be managed or prevented?
You CAN NOT prevent a wisdom tooth from becoming impacted, but regular dental check-ups can help detect problems early.
• Get a dental X-ray to check the position and direction of the wisdom tooth.
• Maintain good oral hygiene, especially around partially erupted wisdom teeth.
• Monitor regularly if the tooth is not causing problems and your dentist considers observation appropriate.
• Consider surgical removal if the tooth is causing pain, infection, decay, damage to the neighboring tooth, or other complications.
>>>Early detection – proper evaluation – timely treatment can help protect your second molar and overall oral health
