Could your child’s behavior be connected to poor sleep?

Sleep deprivation in children doesn’t always look like being tired. It can look like hyperactivity, irritability, trouble focusing, mouth breathing, restless sleep, or snoring.

If you’re noticing changes in your child’s behavior this school year, it may be worth paying attention to what’s happening while they sleep, too.

Read our latest blog to learn more about the connection between sleep, airway health, and behavior.

A few new faces have joined the OMT team this year, and we couldn’t be happier to have them here.

With a new location and lots of exciting changes along the way, we’ve had plenty to celebrate. We’re so thankful for the people who make OMT of York what it is and for the care they give our patients every day.

Here’s the team behind it all!

As the days get shorter and shorter between now and December 21, we’re especially grateful for our red light tools. We’re huge fans of red light for circadian biology, but in our office, we use it for SO much more than that!

✨ Whole-body: During massage therapy sessions, we love using red light while working with tight fascia and areas of muscular tension throughout the body.

✨ Targeted: And that little light? 🙌 It is PERFECT for focusing on specific areas—including TMD-related pain and tension.

Basically… if there’s a place that’s tight, cranky, or asking for a little extra attention, we’ve probably tried red light there. 😂❤️

AND THEN WE SAW THE DISCOUNT. 😳

50% OFF EVERYTHING at EMR-TEK?!

Seriously. FIFTY PERCENT. We can’t believe it either.

If you’ve been thinking about trying red light, this is a pretty incredible opportunity to grab one. And because this is our affiliate link, we wanted to share it with our OMT family:

No code needed—the 50% discount is automatically applied through our link.

We’re sharing this because we genuinely use these lights in our office and LOVE them. ❤️

Now excuse us while we go see what else we can find to put red light on. 😂

🍂 **The heat is coming back on… and your nose might notice.**

As we head into fall, we start closing the windows and turning on the heat. That means drier indoor air, along with dust, pet dander, and seasonal allergens that can get trapped inside.

If you’re working on your nasal breathing, this time of year is especially important. Nasal congestion can make it harder to keep your lips sealed, maintain proper tongue posture, and breathe comfortably through your nose- especially while you sleep.

A few things you can do now to help:

• Use a saline rinse to clear out mucus and allergens
• Consider a xylitol nasal spray to help keep your nasal passages moisturized
• Keep your bedroom humidity between 30–50%
• Change your furnace filter regularly

**Don’t wait until you’re stuffed up to start thinking about your nasal health.** A little preparation now can help you stay on track as we head into the colder months.

🎒 Your child passed their school physical-but could something still be getting missed?

School screenings check important basics like vision, hearing, and growth, but they don’t evaluate breathing, tongue posture, or oral muscle function.

If your child snores, breathes through their mouth, wakes up tired, or struggles with focus, it may be time to look deeper.

Our newest blog shares what school screenings cover, what they don’t, and when a myofunctional evaluation may help.

One Simple Sign That Matters More Than You Think 👄

A child's lips can tell us a lot.

A healthy lip seal isn't just about how the mouth looks at rest. It's one of the clearest clues to how a child is breathing, chewing, swallowing, and developing.

When the lips don't come together easily and comfortably, it's often a sign that something else is going on, such as mouth breathing, low tongue posture, less-than-optimal jaw development, or underdeveloped oral muscles.

Another red flag we look for is an everted (rolled-out) lower lip. While it may seem like a small detail, it can be a sign that the lips are working too hard to compensate, the mouth is resting open, or the oral muscles aren't functioning efficiently. It's one more piece of the puzzle that helps us understand how the whole orofacial system is working.

This is exactly what myofunctional therapy is designed to address.

Through consistent, targeted exercises, we retrain the muscles of the lips, cheeks, and tongue so the mouth can function the way it was designed to: staying closed at rest, supporting nasal breathing, and promoting healthy oral function.

Notice how the lower lip changes from rolled outward to relaxed and gently sealed. That isn't just a cosmetic improvement—it's a sign of more efficient muscle function and a healthier resting posture.

The transformation you see here isn't just cosmetic. It's a reflection of improved function—and that can support better breathing habits, clearer speech, more restful sleep, and healthy facial development over time.

If you're noticing an open-mouth posture, difficulty maintaining a lip seal, or a rolled-out lower lip in your own child, we'd love to help you understand what those signs might mean and whether myofunctional therapy could help.
