Did you know that the fine motor skills required to tie your shoes are the same ones needed to effectively brush your teeth?

It’s a great rule of thumb: If they can tie their shoes, they are finally ready to brush their own teeth unsupervised! Before this milestone, kids usually don't have the manual dexterity to reach every nook and cranny (especially those tricky back molars).

How to transition your "big kid" to independent brushing:

⏰The 2-Minute Rule: They brush for one minute, and you do a quick "quality check" for the second minute.

🪞The Mirror Copy: Brush your teeth at the same time so they can mirror your technique.

🥳Celebrate the Milestones: Learning to tie shoes and brush solo are huge steps toward independence. Praise their effort!

💡 Bonus Tip: Even if they are master shoe-tiers, it’s always a good idea for a parent to supervise or do a quick touch-up brush until around ages 7 or 8 to ensure those cavity-prone areas stay sparkling clean.
