This patient came to us just before his wedding, hoping we could correct the decay and fractures present on his anterior teeth. In two appointments and three weeks, we were able to complete his case just in time! I always find it fulfilling when you can impact someone’s life by improving their confidence or happiness by simply working on 4 teeth. In an ideal world, I would have loved for this patient to go through orthodontic treatment so we could correct his edge to edge bite and lengthen those centrals to match his canines. But ideal sometimes is not an option. We will always listen to our patients and come up with a treatment that can satisfy their goals and meet their needs. Happy Friday everyone!

Time to review a fun case. This patient had been coming to us for years for routine checkups. Each visit, the patient expressed to us how they never smiled due to the crowding and over all aesthetics. It’s hard to tell but this is a very small jaw. Crowding like this, especially in a smaller jaw, makes it extremely difficult to keep clean. You can see the plaque, buildup, and overall inflammation in the gums. What you can’t see is that there is extensive decay under these teeth, some that needed to be extracted.

Ideally, we wanted to incorporate orthodontic treatment to restore this smile but it was not feasible for the patient due to the length in time and finances considering how much work is needed just to restore the dentition. We restored this mouth with a combination of ceramic crowns and dental implants. We were able to make drastic improvements in spacing as well. Look at how healthy the gums look now that it is easier for the patient to floss and brush. More importantly, our patient stated she feels she can smile now and feels more confident in herself!

There are certain foods that can damage teeth extensively. The main ones are generally sodas, energy drinks, and sweet teas. When consumed at a daily or high rate, they cause irreversible damage to our teeth due to their acidic properties. This young individual had large cavities present and was experiencing pain. We were able to restore the teeth with ceramic crowns, get rid of the pain, and most importantly … educate the patient on proper home care and altering their diet. The restorations look natural and no one will ever know this patient had extensive dental work completed!

I really wish I took a true before photo for this case. This particular patient has a history of clenching as you can see the wear and cracks on the teeth. Despite wearing a night guard religiously, all it took was a pretzel to crack one of the front incisors down the middle. In a pinch I quickly restored the tooth with resin to get the patient through the day. The incisor adjacent has a similar vertical fracture. Our patient elected to proceed with crowns on both teeth to prevent further wear or damage. For my dentist colleagues, normally I go with layered lithium disilicate crowns for anterior teeth but due to how much wear was on the lingual aspect, we prepped minimally and went with a translucent zirconia restoration. The ceramist did a great job adding characterization and craze lines to mimic the adjacent teeth. We saw this patient for a routine cleaning today and gingival and crowns look great!

Summertime is right around the corner! ☀️😎 This is a great time to get in for your routine exam and cleaning. A couple of tips for maintaining healthy gums and teeth 😬🪥🦷. Try switching to an electric toothbrush like our wonderful patient here. We notice our patients that use an electric brush tend to have significantly less inflammation and plaque present. The less inflammation and plaque, the less likely you are to develop problems in your mouth! Prevention is key 🔑!
