The first hour is with our team. We're going to get full diagnostic records: 3D imaging, a complete series of photographs, a full gum health check of every single tooth, an oral cancer screening. Then we’re going to sit down, face to face, and I'm going to ask you one question before anything else: what can I do for you?

YOU. What brought you in, what's bothering you, what you want your mouth to feel and look like.

A lot of practices rush through new patients. We don't. We allot the time because if something needs to be addressed, we want to be able to go over it with you right then not schedule a follow-up to explain the follow-up.

Most people think the scariest part of getting an implant is the surgery.

It's not. The scariest part is usually the decision… committing to the process, the appointments, the cost without really understanding what you're getting into.

So let me lay it out. We use a guided technique, which means we do a 3D scan of your jaw and a scan of your mouth, merge them together, and use that to plan exactly where the implant goes before we ever touch you. It's precise, it's safe, and there's no guesswork.

If the tooth is already gone, we're usually looking at about 4 months from placement to final crown. If we need to remove a tooth and do a bone graft, it's closer to 6 months. We map out every appointment in advance so you always know where you are in the process.

And we have set pricing so you know exactly what you’re going to pay. No surprises.

She'd needed gas for every single procedure since she started coming to see us. Crown prep? Gas. Even cleanings, she was nervous. It's just how she was, and we never made her feel bad about it.

Last week, we finished her implant. I told her beforehand all I'm doing is taking off the healing cap and screwing in the crown. No shot. You won't feel anything. You don't need the gas today.

She decided to try it without. And she did GREAT.

When we finished, she said, "I'm so glad to be done with this. And I can't believe I did it without gas." She was proud of herself. And honestly, so was I.

That's the part of this job no one talks about. Getting someone to a point where the dentist doesn't terrify them anymore. That takes time. But it's one of the most satisfying things I get to be part of.

Your TMJ is a lot like your back.

Once it's messed up, it's never completely right again. You just have to learn how to manage it. Which is why I'd rather catch the signs early, before we get to that point.

A lot of people don't realize they're grinding or clenching until they see wear patterns on their teeth, or start waking up with headaches, or their jaw starts clicking. Some are grinding so hard they have ear pain and limited range of motion. These aren't separate problems. They're all connected.

About 80% of patients who grind or clench also have some degree of sleep apnea. Not always severe, but the connection is real and definitely worth knowing about. We can actually test for sleep apnea right here at my Towne Lake dentist office, so you don't have to wait months for a sleep study referral.

Night guards, snore guards, Botox for muscle tension, we have options. The goal is always to protect what you have before it's harder to fix.
