A consultation at our office is a conversation, and that's all it is.

When people call to book one, we're clear about that up front. I'm not going to look in your mouth, and you're not going to lie back in a chair. We'll just sit face to face and talk about whatever brought you here.

If you want to know what a veneer is, how long they last, what the different types are, we'll go through all of it. The conversation is about what you want to understand, not about selling you something.

It doesn't cost anything.

Now, if you want specifics about your own mouth, that takes an exam. We'll take photographs, put them up on the big screen, and have the same conversation with your own teeth in front of us. And, yes, we charge for exams.

But a consultation? No.

Some offices call a sales pitch a consultation. We don't.

Your dental insurance and your medical insurance are completely different animals, and confusing them costs people money.

Medical insurance exists to protect you from a loss that could wipe you out. Dental coverage is more of a benefit instead of insurance. It has an annual ceiling, and that number has barely moved in decades. It's a benefit worth using, and we’ll, of course, send in all your forms.

But it was never designed to tell you what your mouth needs.

The person who should decide that is the dentist who examined you, looked at your x-rays, and knows what your bite has been doing for years. When dental insurance starts shaping your treatment plan, by saying what you can and cannot have done, you can end up treating what's covered instead of what's WRONG. That's the part I want patients in Woodstock to understand.

Use your benefit and let it work for you. Just don't let it dictate your care.

By the time you sit down in the chair, a lot has already happened that you never see. Charts reviewed, the room set up, notes from your last visit pulled so nothing gets missed.

That prep work is a full team effort, and it's a big part of why your appointment time gets used well instead of spent catching up. We built this practice around the idea that a smooth visit starts before you ever walk through the door.
