🌟🔬Student Spotlight: Iris Qu
This summer, we had the pleasure of welcoming Iris Qu to Goodwin Dentistry + Medicine for her Student Observership!
Iris is a rising senior at Stanford University, where she is studying Molecular Biology with a minor in Data Science. Originally from Oviedo, Florida, Iris has developed an impressive background combining scientific research, patient care, service, and the arts.
At Stanford, Iris works as a research assistant studying biomaterials and skin wound regeneration and has gained experience with techniques including qPCR, immunofluorescence, histology, and flow cytometry. She also serves as a Mandarin medical interpreter at a free clinic, volunteers with stroke survivors through Stanford Healing Strokes, and participates in creative arts programs with hospital patients. 🎨We love the way she is integrating her talent for the arts into the medical sciences!
During her time with our team, Iris shared that her observership gave her a new perspective on the connection between oral health and whole-body health:
“Aside from being more motivated to keep up good dental hygiene, my Observership also opened my eyes to systemic health, since localized treatments dominate what I thought I knew about medicine.”
She added:
“I hope to practice medicine in a community as wonderful as the one at Goodwin Dentistry + Medicine. I’m very grateful for the opportunity.”
It was a joy to have Iris spend time learning alongside our team. We wish her continued success and blessing as she begins her senior year at Stanford and continues her journey toward a career in medicine! We are cheering you on! 🩺👁️✨
