Tuesday we closed for the afternoon to volunteer with Samaritan’s Purse. After a brief orientation we were sent out to one of the homes still standing after the tornado. We met up with a larger group that has been working for days already. They showed us the ropes and we helped with cleanup, raking debris (out of everywhere), collecting all the nails and sharp objects hidden in the grass, patching the roof and just talking with the homeowner and the neighbors to hear their stories. It was a very rewarding afternoon and very eye opening to how much the community has come together to help one another. It’s very shocking to look around and see the exterior walls missing and roofs torn off, there is still so much to be done. Check out Beyond the Storm and some of the great things they are doing!!
