🦷🦷The more you know, the better!!🦷🦷
When you are informed you can make better decisions on your oral health! Dr. Tringas will always be sure to keep you informed, but don't hesitate to ask any questions at your appointments!
Wisdom teeth and if they need to be removed is a hot question in our office! Do you have room? How many do you have? Will they need to be removed?
Fun fact: Nearly 10 million wisdom teeth are extracted yearly! Crazy right?
Genetics and ethnicity determine who and who does not get wisdom teeth/ how many you have. Wisdom teeth emerge between the ages of 18-21 usually, but some get them sooner and later! Some will get all 4 wisdom teeth, some 3 some 2.
When you are in our office we will take x-rays to be able to tell whether unerupted wisdom teeth need to be removed. The reasons you will be sent for extractions is lack of room, and the position in the gumline. Most cases you can find wisdom teeth laying sideways and not being able to emerge due to space restrictions. This is considered an impacted tooth.
We typically have the wisdom teeth talk at deband appointments and if needed we will refer you to an Oral surgeon or let you know that we still have some time and will continue to monitor. We work alongside some of the best oral surgeons, so you will be in great hands if removal is the route that is being taken!
