How exciting!!! The snow has melted and we can see the ground again!
Suddenly 50°F feels amazing, but beware!!! This is prime season for dental injuries for kids because of fine gravel and debris that bicycle tires can slide on, and sidewalk and driveway pavement that has shifted or buckled, creating new hazards to trip on. Hoping your kids can enjoy the warm moments with no dental injuries!!!

Although we think about her every day and she is missed just terribly, I can’t help but to be thankful to have known someone so kind and so genuine for so long….

Unlike botulism in older children and adults, infant botulism can come on slowly and get gradually worse over time. That means parents and other caregivers can make a big difference in noticing the symptoms early and getting medical care.

Symptoms of infant botulism can include:
- Choking when trying to feed
- Constipation
- Weaker suck or poor feeding
- Eyelid drooping (ptosis)
- Lack of facial expressions, being unable to lift their head, or other signs of muscle weakness or paralysis
- Weaker crying
- Weakness or decreased muscle tone, especially starting at the top of their body and limbs, making your baby feel “floppy” and keeping them from reaching or grabbing
- Bowel movement changes, like not pooping for days or even weeks at a time

Babies get botulism if they eat something containing spores from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. The best-known way that babies can get Clostridium botulinum spores in their gut is from honey. That’s why you should NEVER give honey to babies under a year old.

It is with deep, deep sadness that I have to announce the passing of our beloved coworker Patty, after an extremely hard fought battle with a long illness. She loved her family and our patients very much, and it showed constantly with her cheerful and calming manner. Patty and I worked together for 31 years/70,000 hours, and Patty, Becky and I worked together for the last 22 years. We loved her so much it’s hard to put into words. We will miss her terribly….
