Did you know fluoride has been added to US drinking water since way back in 1945 to help prevent cavities? If it were toxic at the levels in our water, we'd likely have seen issues across the past 4-5 generations! Fluoride is actually a mineral found naturally in water, with some places having much higher levels than what's added to public supplies (it varies based on things like glacial deposits!). In 2015, the recommended levels were even lowered a bit more to account for all the different sources of fluoride we encounter daily.

I guess we will see if the legislators are correct instead of the doctors. Hopefully they will provide for the needed funds should this turn out to cost the healthcare system more money and kids preventable dental needs.

I am in favor of opening the books, robust reviews, and questioning the dogma. It is the practice of medicine for a reason and it must follow the science. In this case we have research since 1945 but perhaps it should be reviewed and studied before making policy changes. Turns out the food pyramid wasn't exactly fact based; 6-11 servings of complex and simple carbohydrates might just have led to the epidemic of diabetes in the US.

The move has been criticised by experts, who say the mineral helps reduce oral cavities, especially in children.
