What is a root canal?



When a tooth has become badly decayed or infected you may be told you need a root canal to save it. A root canal removes the pulp (innermost layer) of the tooth, cleans the inside of the tooth and seals it, this prevents infection from returning or spreading to adjoining teeth. Modern root canals are effective and gentle!

Introducing Stellar Dental Careโ€™s owner, Dr. Dianna Melman...and her dog sunny



Dr. Melman opened the first Stellar Dental Care in 2009 and has since grown the practice into 5 Western New York offices, all still locally owned and woman-owned!



Why did you choose dental? I grew up in a dental family, both of my parents were dentists.



How long have you been in the field? Over 20 years, I started by going to hygiene school and was a hygienist for a year before I went to dental school. I continued to practice dental hygiene part-time while I attended dental school at UB.



Favorite thing to do locally? In the summer, I like to find different areas locally to hike and explore.



Hobbies? Hot Yoga and walking. I enjoy staying active. I also love to cook. My favorite thing is soup, especially in the winter!



Pets? SUNNY, my golden doodle! He is very smart and even smiles on command!



Favorite dental advice? Dental Prevention is key! Make sure you have your cleanings every 6 months!



Best sports team? Absolutely the Buffalo Bills! Waiting on a Superbowlโ€ฆmaybe next year? Buffalos players and fans are passionate and resilient! There is nothing else like them.

Why did you choose dental?
I chose dental because I wanted my sisters footsteps who is a Pediatric Dentist and it made me walk into this profession, which made me passionate about helping people achieve better oral health and confidence in their smiles.
As a faculty member at University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine, I'm also dedicated in shaping the next generation of dental professionals.

Favorite thing to do locally?
I enjoy going and trying new local restaurants.

Hobbies?
When I'm not creating healthy smiles I enjoy watching new TV shows and trying out new recipes in the kitchen. I also like to play Indian musical instrument called Tabla.

Pets?
I had a dog earlier and soon planning to have a new one.

Favorite dental advice?
Remember, regular dental care is the key, just like clearing snow from your sidewalks! Keep your smile shining like a winter wonderland with daily brushing and flossing!

Best sports team?
