August is Black-Owned Business Month.
Supporting Black-owned businesses matters because it helps build stronger local economies, creates jobs, and helps close the racial wealth gap. It also improves representation in the marketplace and supports entrepreneurs who have historically faced barriers to capital and growth.
Why it matters
More money stays in the community when you buy from small local businesses, which can have a bigger ripple effect than spending at large chains.
Black-owned businesses often face more difficulty getting loans and startup capital, so consumer support can directly affect their survival and growth.
Supporting them also helps normalize diversity in business ownership and makes it easier for future entrepreneurs to succeed.
