“Wait… my sugar-free drinks are bad for my teeth?! 🤯”

Yes—even if they say zero sugar.

Drinks like Alani, Bubblr, La Croix, and other sparkling waters and energy drinks are often acidic, and acid is what weakens enamel and makes teeth more prone to cavities and sensitivity.

You don’t have to give them up completely, but try this:
• Keep them with meals, not all day long
• Don’t sip constantly—finish it in one sitting
• Use a straw when you can
• Rinse with water afterward
• Wait 30 minutes before brushing so you don’t brush softened enamel

Your enamel doesn’t care about sugar… it cares about acid. 🦷💧
Curious how your favorite drink scores on the tooth-friendly scale? Bring it up at your next visit and we’ll walk through it together.

Did someone say National Barbie Day? We wanted to take our own spin on it and turn our 90s photos into barbies. Any guesses who of us got made into our very own Smiles Barbie?

🪥 “How often should I really change my toothbrush?”

Most people wait way too long to swap their toothbrush. The general rule: change it every 3–4 months, or sooner if the bristles look frayed or squished.

Why it matters: worn bristles can’t clean your teeth well and may even irritate your gums.

You should also change your brush after you’ve been sick, otherwise you can reintroduce those bacteria back into your mouth.

Take a quick look at your toothbrush tonight… is it time for a fresh one? 👀

"I felt truly cared for and educated about my dental health."

That’s what happens when your dental team slows down, listens, and explains the why behind every recommendation.

Dr. Megan is spending the next 2 days in Chicago talking and learning about the latest trends in AI and Technology and where it’s headed in dentistry. Today she will be serving on an expert panel to discuss how it’s applied to real-world dentistry. 💻 🦷 🤓

Two weeks. Multiple schools. So many little smiles. 💙🦷

For Children’s Dental Health Month, Dr. Megan visited local classrooms (pictured: LIS 3-year-old preschool!) to talk brushing basics, tooth-happy snacks, and what dentists really do.

Each child went home with toothbrush goodies AND their own copy of Pout-Pout Fish Goes to the Dentist - because healthy smiles and early literacy both matter to us. 📚✨

We love being part of this community and investing in our youngest learners.

Tomorrow we kick off our visits for Children’s Dental Health Month! We love sharing tooth-positive books with our youngest community members and helping teach them how to keep their teeth sugar bug free.

This year’s book that we’re giving away may be the funnest one yet!

Electric toothbrush: overhyped… or essential? 🪥⚡️
Here’s why I recommend one to nearly every patient who sits in my chair.

As a dentist and a mom, this one surprises parents the most.

Goldfish and similar crackers like Cheez Its, pretzels, and graham crackers are not sweet, but they are made of refined starches that quickly convert to sugar in the mouth. Because they are sticky and tend to get packed into molars, they sit there feeding bacteria long after snack time is over.

That means longer acid attacks and higher cavity risk.

This does not mean your child can never have them. It means:

✔️ Offer them with meals instead of frequent grazing
✔️ Have your child rinse with water afterward
✔️ Help with brushing until they are old enough to tie their shoes

During Children’s Dental Health Month, we are focused on small changes that protect little smiles long term.

The ADA, AAPD, and American Medical Association all agree children should see a dentist by age 1. If your child has not been established with a dentist yet, now is the perfect time. We are accepting new patients and would love to care for your family.
