Sleep Appliance in Action.
Here's what a sleep appliance (mandibular advancement device) looks like when worn.
These appliances can work well for some patients with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea and for many patients who struggle with CPAP.
The appliance fits over the upper and lower teeth and gently holds the lower jaw in a slightly forward position to help keep the airway open during sleep.
Adjustments are simple. As treatment progresses, we can make small changes to the position of the jaw by changing the trays, allowing us to gradually find the most effective and comfortable position.
Not every patient is a candidate, but for the right patient, oral appliance therapy can be a comfortable and effective alternative.
