Gum disease can be reversible in the early stage, but not always once it becomes more advanced.

Gingivitis is early gum inflammation, and with better home care and professional cleanings, the gums can often return to health.

Periodontitis is different. Once gum disease causes bone loss, it usually cannot be fully reversed, but treatment can help slow it down and protect the teeth.

If you notice bleeding, swelling, gum recession, or loose teeth, it’s worth having your gums checked.

Swollen gums are usually a sign of inflammation, but there can be different reasons why it happens.

Plaque and tartar along the gumline are common causes. They can irritate the gums and lead to puffiness, redness, tenderness, or bleeding.

Other factors may also contribute, including hormonal changes, some medications, smoking, diabetes, or areas that are difficult to clean well.

If gum swelling comes with pain, pus, fever, facial swelling, or trouble swallowing, it’s important to have it checked promptly.

Deep cleanings are used to treat gum disease. They clean deeper gum pockets and smooth the root surfaces where bacteria and tartar can collect.

Your exam and gum measurements help determine which type of cleaning your gums need.

We’re excited to now offer Curodont® Repair Fluoride Plus at Bailey Family Dental. 🦷

Curodont is a new drill-free treatment option for certain early areas of tooth decay before a true cavity has formed. It works by supporting the tooth’s natural remineralization process, helping strengthen the affected area while preserving natural tooth structure.

There’s no drilling or numbing needed for qualifying early lesions, and the treatment is completed right here in the office.

Not every area of decay is a candidate, so ask us at your next visit if Curodont may be an option for your tooth.
