A broken tooth can feel stressful, but a few calm steps can help protect it until you’re seen.

Rinse gently, avoid chewing on that side, and use a cold compress if there is swelling. Do not use superglue or try to force anything back into place.

Even if the tooth does not hurt, it should still be checked. Some breaks are minor, while others may involve the filling, crown, nerve, or deeper tooth structure.

If a crown comes off, don’t panic.

Try to keep the area clean, avoid chewing on that side, and store the crown somewhere safe if it does not fit comfortably. Do not use superglue or force it back into place.

Even if the tooth does not hurt, it still needs an exam. The tooth underneath may be sensitive, exposed, or at risk for further damage.
