Our friend, a 32yo female, presented with:

She came for another opinion, as she was told she would need 4 premolars extracted.

I preferred (as did she) a more conservative approach.

Braces and elastics. No extractions. 20 months.

A Gummy Smile Reduction

A final update to an earlier post!

Our patient's ultimate goal was a smile makeover with veneer restoration. However, eliminating a gummy smile was a chief concern. Her dentist recognized the importance of orthodontic treatment to achieve the best result, and was referred to us for treatment.

This case presented with several challenges. Her upper right lateral incisor ( #7) and premolar ( #4) were implant restorations. #7 had been an extremely complicated surgery, and the implant was finally restored, but the gingival margin did not match it's surrounding teeth. This posed an aesthetic problem.

Our plan was to intrude the maxillary arch to reduce her gummy smile. We used the existing implants and bracketed appropriately to intrude the entire right side. Two TADs were placed to intrude the left side. I had to trim down the incisal edge of #7 as we intrude to keep the tooth from looking long.

In the end, only #8 and 9 required a little gingivectomy to level the gingival margins, and the final veneers were placed.

Our patient's gummy smile was completely eliminated with minimal surgery, and we couldn't be any happier with the final results!

So thankful to and for collaborating on this case, and to our patient for trusting us with her care. 🫶🏼

Sometimes a tooth just doesn't want to grow down.

Our friend presented with:

🔹 High canine
🔹 Deep overbite
🔹 Lower crowding

Braces were bonded, and the high canine was simply brought down with arch wires. Though she already had beautiful teeth, care was taken to place them in the proper positions to enhance her smile.

Just 11 months to achieve this beautiful smile!

Thank you for your patience and understanding the last two weeks!

We were in Korea on a big family trip. It was an amazing two weeks of family, food, culture, and history. It was incredibly fulfilling to watch the boys take in the sights, eat the incredible food, and learn about their culture.

Now, let's get back to it!
