Front desk spots this a mile away. Make your appointment before you leave, or we both know it's not happening 😂

Six months isn't a number we made up for scheduling reasons.

That's roughly how long it takes plaque to harden into tartar, also called calculus. Once that happens, brushing and flossing at home won't touch it. It has to be removed with instruments.

Coming in on that schedule means we catch buildup while it's still small, before it turns into gum disease.

If you already have periodontal disease, six months is too long. We shorten the interval to every 3 to 4 months so we can clean below the gumline and keep it from progressing further.

The cleaning is also only half of the visit. Every appointment includes an exam, and that's where we catch cavities while they're still small fillings. The alternative is finding them later, when the options are a root canal or an extraction.

Preventive care is the cheapest dentistry there is.

Nobody talks about the mentally exhausting side of dentistry.

But despite all of that…it's the most rewarding feeling to give people a better quality of life.

The word "implant" scares people more than the procedure does.

It's fair. It is surgery, and nobody hears "surgical procedure" and relaxes. But the version people picture in their head is usually about 20 years out of date.

The techniques we use now are built around being minimally invasive: smaller access, less trauma to the surrounding tissue, and a shorter time in the chair. Most patients are surprised by how routine the appointment feels compared to what they'd built it up to be.

The honest benchmark: if you've had a tooth pulled, you can handle an implant.

And if the anxiety is still there, say it out loud at your consult. There are more comfort options available than most patients realize.

Your teeth might not be short. They might just be covered.

Most people assume a gummy smile is something you're born with and stuck with. The ones who do look into it usually stop when they hear the word veneers, because they don't want anything drilled, shaved, or permanently changed.

Here's the part that gets missed: a lot of gummy smiles aren't a tooth problem at all. They're a tissue problem.

We take X-rays and use a periodontal probe to measure how much natural tooth is actually hiding under the gumline. In a lot of cases there's significantly more tooth there than you can see.

From there the corrections are conservative. Laser gingival contouring reshapes the gum tissue and reveals the tooth that already exists. Botox can keep the upper lip from overextending when you smile. Neither one destroys natural tooth structure.

What looked short and boxy starts looking proportional. Same teeth. Just uncovered.

If your smile has quietly bothered you for years but you weren't willing to commit to something irreversible, book a consult. You likely have more options than you were told.
