Did you know your child’s jaw structure can actually affect how they breathe?
The upper jaw forms the floor of the nasal cavity, so if it’s narrow, the airway is smaller too.
That can make it harder to get enough air in, especially during sleep.
One of the things we can do orthodontically is guide the growth of the upper jaw using a palatal expander, which helps create more space and improve overall airflow 🌬️
The younger the better for this type of treatment because we lose this opportunity once children become teenagers. Around age 7 is typically when we start evaluating for this type of treatment, but in certain cases sometimes even earlier!
