A happy heart leads to a healthy smile!

Periodontal disease has been linked to heart conditions and other systemic diseases, making oral health essential for overall well-being. Bacteria from the mouth can increase the risk of heart disease and, in some cases, lead to bacterial endocarditis in patients with preexisting heart conditions.

Periodontal disease is linked to heart conditions and other systemic diseases, making oral care crucial for overall health. Bacteria from the mouth can increase heart disease risk and lead to bacterial endocarditis in patients with heart conditions.

If you have a history of heart issues, always disclose them during dental visits so we can take necessary precautions. Proper home care and regular hygiene visits help maintain both a healthy heart and smile!

: Pink gums are happy gums! Remember, with links to diabetes and heart disease, gum health is crucial as it can impact overall well-being.

Prevent gum disease with simple steps: brush twice daily with a soft toothbrush, floss regularly, and use antimicrobial mouthwash. Consider adding a water flosser for hard-to-reach areas. Regular visits to your dental hygienist for professional cleanings and check-ups are key.

On World Alzheimer’s Day, we highlight the important link between oral health and Alzheimer’s disease. Research shows a connection between the bacteria in Periodontal Disease and Alzheimer’s. Reducing plaque in the mouth may help slow the progression of the disease, making daily home care essential for those with Alzheimer’s.

As providers, our job is to recommend tools that make oral care easier, like electric toothbrushes with larger handles for better grip or a WaterPik to reach difficult areas. Frequent dental visits are also key to keeping bacteria at bay and supporting overall health.

Last week, we participated in OSHA’s Safe + Sound Week to emphasize the importance of our staff and patients' safety to us.

We recognized the week by implementing morning aerosol sanitization, waterline flushing, decontaminating suction lines, and using disposable single-use products. Safety is always a priority, and we’re proud to take these steps to ensure a safe environment for everyone.

Your mouth is the gateway to your body — a healthy mouth and diet can pave the way for a long, healthy life. Dental care is a vital form of self-care, benefiting not just your teeth but your entire body.

Here are some dental tips in honor of International Self-Care Day:

🦷 Remove bacteria from your tongue to reduce bad breath and lessen gut bacteria.
🦷 Floss to remove food and plaque between your teeth, reducing cavity formation.
🦷 Brush daily to remove plaque and reduce gum irritation and inflammation.
🦷 Swish water after consuming colored foods and beverages to prevent stains.

Be sure to prioritize your oral health for overall well-being!

This Migraine and Headache Awareness Month, remember migraines can often stem from issues beyond your head. For example, excessive chewing, clenching, grinding, and even lifestyle habits are common culprits. Simple adjustments might be the key to relief; here are some tips we have that may help:

🧠 Reduce stress, stay hydrated, and be mindful of your diet (reduce gum and sticky foods)
🧠 Use your tongue to create space between teeth
🧠 Meditate to reduce stress
🧠 Use a night guard
🧠 Consult a dentist to evaluate your bite for potential adjustments

Did you know there’s a connection between Periodontal Disease (PD) and Alzheimer’s Disease (AD)? For Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month, we’d like to highlight how each condition can aggravate the other, creating a challenging cycle for patients.

AD often leads to physical limitations, reducing the ability to maintain proper oral hygiene. This can lead to PD, where plaque and harmful bacteria cause inflammation, bone loss, and potentially worsen AD symptoms. Helping AD patients with proper home care and dental hygiene tools can significantly improve their quality of life, reducing discomfort and supporting overall health.

April is Head, Neck & Oral Cancer Awareness Month. This cancer, which can be found in the soft tissue of the mouth, nose, throat, or salivary glands, is mostly known as squamous cell carcinoma and makes up 4% of all cancers. It is most common in men and mostly found in patients over the age of 50.

Risk factors include smoking, alcohol, and human papillomavirus (HPV), and symptoms typically include a lump or sore, a hoarse voice, and difficulty swallowing. Regular hygiene visits can assist with catching signs or symptoms in early stages. Is your hygienist screening for oral cancer at every visit?
