A lot of dental offices book a new patient every 15 minutes. Which means someone is always running late. Which means you — the patient — end up sitting in that waiting room for 30, 45, sometimes over 60 minutes, watching the clock.
That's not how we operate here.
Every appointment is booked for a full hour, minimum — even when the actual procedure only takes 30 minutes. That built-in cushion means a few things: I'm never rushing you out the door. I have time to actually get to know you — your family, what's going on in your life, not just what's going on in your mouth. And if you want to add on a quick Botox treatment while you're already here, there's room in the schedule to do it right then, without squeezing you in somewhere else.
No double-booking. No overflow waiting room. Just intentional, unhurried care, designed around you.
That's how dentistry should be.

Why I became a dentist — the real story 🎥

A lot of people don't know I actually started at Wharton. I was recruited into a corporate job and realized pretty quickly — I didn't want to be just another number in a big company. I wanted something more personal, more mine.
So I went back to school — this time to the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine.

It runs in the family too — my dad is a dentist, and I grew up around the practice. Seeing that world up close showed me this career could give me real work-life balance, which mattered a lot to me as a woman thinking about the kind of life I wanted to build.
But if I'm honest, none of that is the real reason I still love this job.

It's the moment after treatment, when a patient looks in the mirror and sees their smile — really sees it — for the first time in a long time. No more hiding it because of pain or embarrassment. Just confidence. That look on their face is something I never get tired of.

🎗️ Did you know April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month?

We're sharing something remarkable this week. Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine just published a study on a bioengineered chewing gum that targets the viruses and bacteria most linked to oral and throat cancers — including HPV — and wipes them out while leaving your healthy oral bacteria completely intact.

In lab tests, it reduced HPV in saliva by 93% and brought dangerous bacterial levels to nearly zero with a single dose.

This matters because oral cancer — especially head and neck squamous cell carcinoma — is often diagnosed late, and current treatments come with serious side effects. This research opens the door to something different: a gentler, smarter approach.

If you or someone you know is in braces or Invisalign right now — please read this.

One of the most common things Dr. Melisande Wolff sees at Presidential Dental Center is patients in active orthodontic treatment who have no idea their dental cleaning schedule needs to change. Their orthodontist is doing their job — adjusting wires, monitoring alignment, tracking progress. But cleanings? That was never the orthodontist’s responsibility.

Here’s what the research and clinical experience both show:

When you’re in braces, brackets and wires create dozens of hiding spots where plaque and bacteria accumulate — spots that no toothbrush can fully reach. When you’re in clear aligners, your trays hug your teeth for 22 hours a day, sealing any bacteria directly against your enamel for hours at a time. Both situations significantly raise your cavity risk. Which means the standard 6-month cleaning schedule is simply not enough.

Dr. Wolff recommends professional cleanings every 3 months for every patient in active orthodontic treatment. And if you have a history of gum disease, that schedule stays the same — or gets more frequent.
