Some good news to share! Our office will be re-opening and we will begin seeing patients again on Monday, May 18, and Roxanne will begin seeing hygiene patients on Tuesday, May 26.

We've always been extremely meticulous about infection control, and we've spent the past several weeks upgrading our equipment and procedures to help further enhance the safety of patients and our team in the presence of COVID-19. Among the changes you'll see are new medical-grade air purifiers in each operatory, capable of filtering particles down to 0.003 microns (more than 10x smaller than coronavirus particles), with a flow rate that can filter each room in about 5 minutes.

We've also added Isolite dental isolation units, which significantly reduce aerosols as compared to traditional methods. The attached photo from a study done with the Isolite shows how much less bacteria or viral material is present in the Petri dish is when the Isolite is used.

Just a quick update to let you know that we are all doing well, but are still not able to safely re-open the office to practice dentistry just yet. On the positive side, I have been working to secure new equipment that will help minimize aerosolization, and I have been able to reserve future PPE allocations so that once the situation improves in the greater Austin area, we'll be able to ramp back up quickly. Things will be different, for sure, but my focus is on doing everything I can during this time to create a safe environment for patients and our team once we return.

I hope all of you and your families are remaining well. Being in dentistry and so focused on providing service to others, it has been hard for me and our entire team to be "sidelined", but I know it is necessary. We miss you all, and are hopeful that it won't be too much longer before we can see you again. We hope everyone is safe and staying healthy during these challenging times. In accordance with local, state and CDC recommendations, and to help preserve critical resources (masks, gloves, sanitizer, etc.) for first responders and those who are on the front lines of coronavirus testing and medical care, we are rescheduling all existing hygiene and non-emergency appointments for a later time, and will only be seeing emergency cases for the immediate future.
