Sealants are most effective when applied as soon as the permanent teeth erupt, before they have a chance to decay. The back teeth contain deep fissures where food and plaque accumulate. Sealants block the bacteria from these hiding spots. Sealants are cheaper than treating cavities. The procedure is quick and painless.
