Why do some dental implants succeed while others struggle?
A dental implant is a lot like planting a seed.
The implant is the seed, and your bone and body are the soil. For that seed to grow strong, the environment has to be healthy.
🚬 Smoking is like planting a seed with no oxygen and poor blood flow. The body cannot bring healing nutrients to the implant as well.
🍩🍷 Processed foods, sugar, and alcohol are like planting a seed in poor, depleted soil. The body may be inflamed and missing the building blocks it needs to heal.
🥩🥦💧 Whole foods, protein, minerals, and hydration are like giving that soil nutrients and water so the seed has a better chance to take root.
☀️ Vitamin D deficiency is like planting a seed with no sunlight. Bone needs the right support to stay strong and heal properly.
🩸 Uncontrolled diabetes is like planting a seed in unstable soil. Healing becomes slower, inflammation increases, and infection risk goes up.
🦠🪥 Poor oral hygiene is like planting a seed and never pulling the weeds. Plaque and bacteria can build up around the implant and cause bone loss over time.
Implants do not get cavities, but they can still lose bone from bacteria and inflammation around the gums. That is why brushing, flossing, Waterpik use, and regular maintenance visits are so important.
Dental implants are an investment, and protecting that investment starts with your health and daily habits.
🌱 The seed matters.
🦷 The surgery matters.
🌎 But the soil matters most.
