A case that reminds us just how complex dental trauma can be.
A 14-year-old patient presented following a bicycle accident involving a motor vehicle, resulting in fractures of the orbital rim, nasal bone, and maxillary alveolar bone, along with avulsion of tooth #6 and subluxation of teeth #7 and #8.
Fortunately, oral surgery determined that the fractures did not require surgical intervention.
After consulting with orthodontics, we recommended allowing 6–8 weeks for initial healing before reassessing orthodontic treatment, with close monitoring for potential complications, including ankylosis.
Dental trauma doesn’t end with the initial injury. Long-term monitoring, interdisciplinary collaboration, and thoughtful treatment timing are essential for the best possible outcome.
