Both sides of this argument are wrong, and I’ve trained with both.

The root canal vs. implant question isn’t actually about root canals. It’s about how much healthy tooth is left above the bone. That’s the whole call — and most people never get the 3D scan that answers it.

Save the tooth when it’s savable. Stop pretending it’s savable when it isn’t.

When a tooth is deeply impacted and the roots sit too close to the nerve, removing the entire tooth can risk permanent numbness or extra bone damage. In those cases I carefully take out the crown and leave the root tips behind.
When the anatomy is high-risk, leaving those roots is often the smarter, safer choice to protect the nerve and preserve bone.

Root Canal vs. Implant: The Wrong Question
They’re not the same. A root-canal tooth still has its periodontal ligament, so you feel pressure and slight movement when you bite. An implant is rigidly fixed in bone—stable, but with no natural sensation.
I’ve placed thousands of implants. I don’t automatically replace every root-canal tooth. We discuss the real trade-offs: a treated tooth can sometimes harbor bacteria or low-grade inflammation, while an implant replaces the tooth (newer ceramic ones are more biocompatible) but isn’t something you were born with.
Nothing fully replaces a healthy, vital natural tooth. Let’s talk about what’s best for your mouth.
