Redness, bleeding, swelling around the edges of your gum is not typical. These are signs we look for when people talk about βgingivitis,β which is essentially inflammation of your gums. While you can traumatize the tissue by flossing too hard, the main cause of the bleeding is increased blood flow to the area because the body is sensing bacteria, food or other stuff which should NOT be there. Chronic inflammation in your mouth spreads to your brain π§ , heart β€οΈ , and rest of your body, which can create a variety of other health issues.

We really arenβt trying to bug you when we ask about flossing, we truly are trying to help. What you should notice from daily flossing/water picking is a reduction to a stop in bleeding and your gums should look have a firm, rubbery texture to them. Again, any amount of inflammation in one part of your body can be spread as the body is connected like a subway system! So take care of your mouth to take care of your health!
