Vote YES on 2 🦷
On Tuesday November 8th! This proposed law would require dental insurance companies to pay at least 83% of revenue toward patient care or refund patients what is not spent. Currently, there is no law in place requiring dental insurers to spend a specified amount back on patient care. Similar medical laws require 88% of revenue to be spent on patient care. By voting YES on 2, this loop hole can be addressed and your dental insurance can be spent on you. For more information, click the link in our bio!

We recommend your child stops breastfeeding around 12 months and begins drinking from a cup. At this point we recommend only water in bottles for nighttime. It is important that your child goes to bed with clean teeth so make sure the only thing consumed after brushing is water!

Is your child teething? Symptoms include sensitive and uncomfortable gum areas, drooling, irritability, possible low-grade fever, and diarrhea. It is normal to notice discoloration or bruising over the erupting teeth at this time. Children’s Tylenol may be used to give temporary relief from teething discomfort. Treatment such as massaging of sore gums with finger or teething rings can help your child during this process. Try freezing your teething ring or using an ice cube to increase comfort!

Did you know 30% of children have dental related injuries before the age of 5? If an injury occurs please call our office to have your child evaluated. Important things to note may include: change of tooth color, red or swollen gums, bleeding, or visibly fractured teeth. Primary teeth react differently to injuries than permanent teeth. Often only an x-ray can detect pathological changes in the traumatized primary teeth.

Oral habits like thumb, finger, or pacifier sucking can cause or intensify orthodontic problems. It is normal for infants and children to have a strong sucking desire. Some disfigurement of the primary teeth will self-correct. Most children stop oral habits on their own. Ideally, oral habits should be discouraged prior to eruption of the permanent teeth (approx. 6 years old). Positive reinforcement and reward systems have shown to be effective once the child shows an interest in stopping.
