🦷 Wisdom Teeth: Myth vs. Fact

MYTH: If my wisdom teeth don’t hurt, I don’t need to worry about them.

FACT: Pain isn’t always the first sign of a wisdom tooth problem. Wisdom teeth can be impacted, grow at an angle, create crowding or become difficult to keep clean before they ever become uncomfortable.

The right time for removal can be different for everyone and depends on how the teeth are developing and positioned.

A consultation and X-rays can help determine the best timing for you.

🦷 What Is Bone Grafting?

A strong, healthy foundation is an important part of a healthy smile.

When bone in the jaw has been lost or is insufficient, bone grafting can help rebuild and restore the area. It may be recommended after a tooth has been removed, when bone has been lost over time, or when additional bone is needed to support a future dental implant.

Every patient is different, and Dr. Brotkowski will evaluate your individual needs and discuss whether bone grafting may be beneficial as part of your treatment plan.

🌿 Strong foundations help support healthy smiles for years to come.

FAQ: Will I Be Awake During Surgery? 🌿

This is one of the most common questions we hear from patients preparing for wisdom teeth removal!

With IV sedation, most patients are very sleepy and deeply relaxed throughout their procedure. While everyone responds to sedation a little differently, many patients remember little to nothing about their surgery afterward.

During your procedure, our team carefully monitors you from start to finish, and local anesthetic is also used to keep the surgical area numb and comfortable.

Our goal is to make your experience as safe, comfortable, and stress-free as possible.

✨ What is IV sedation?

Feeling nervous about oral surgery is completely normal.

IV sedation is a safe and effective way to help patients feel relaxed and comfortable during their procedure. While everyone responds differently, many patients remember very little about their surgery afterward.

During your procedure, our team carefully monitors your breathing, heart rate, oxygen levels, and blood pressure to ensure your comfort and safety every step of the way.

Whether you're having your wisdom teeth removed, or undergoing another oral surgery procedure, we're here to help make your experience as comfortable as possible.

🦷 When Is the Right Time to Remove Wisdom Teeth?

Wisdom teeth don't always hurt—but that doesn't always mean they're healthy.

Many wisdom teeth become trapped beneath the gums or don't have enough room to erupt properly. Over time, this can lead to:
• Crowding of nearby teeth
• Infection or swelling
• Damage to neighboring teeth
• Cysts or other complications

The best time for wisdom tooth removal is ages 15-20, but is different for everyone. An evaluation allows our surgeon to assess your teeth, review your X-rays, and recommend the ideal timing for treatment before more serious problems develop.

Whether you're experiencing symptoms or your dentist has recommended an evaluation, our team is here to answer your questions and help you understand your options.
