Friday was a bittersweet day at Lush Family Dental as we said goodbye to Alysha after several great years on our team. Her family is moving to the Waterloo/Waverly area for an amazing opportunity to grow together.

Alysha has been such an important part of Lush, and even more importantly, a great friend to so many of us. It’s been awesome watching her grow over the years—not only professionally, but into the confident young woman and incredible mom she is today.

We’re grateful for everything she has brought to our team and our patients. She’ll be missed around here more than she knows.

We just got a last minute donation for the Lush Family Dental Charity golf outing from CSK Auto Detailing !

This generous group, owned by Colton Kolowski (local teacher and coach), has offered a free detailing for a participating golfer to occur DURING the golf event. Come back to a nice, clean vehicle! In order to be eligible you will just need to enter your information into the free raffle at check in.

We will plan to announce the winner prior to teeing off so CSK can get your keys to unlock and get started on your vehicle. All participants who enter but do not win the free detailing will receive a discount for services with CSK in the future.

Golf week is here!! The Lush team can’t wait for a great day full of fun and fundraising for such a worthy cause— Holding Tiny Hands.

We have the trophy all polished up for the winning team and made some custom hats for all participating golfers with the charity’s logo on the side!

We are still in need of some final help before Friday.
1) Dr. Blake is a nimrod and dropped the ball on a DJ for hole 2. Send help!
2) Most team and pin prizes are covered but we have a few we still need to fill out and are always appreciative of creative donations from the vendors in our community.

Tiny mouths need big care. 🩵

One of the most common questions we get as dentists is, “When should I start brushing my baby’s teeth?”

The answer: before they even have teeth.

Dr. Kate is gently brushing her little one’s gums with a soft infant toothbrush to get them used to the routine and help keep their mouth clean. As those first teeth erupt, brushing is already a familiar part of the day.

A few tips for parents:
🪥 Wipe or brush gums daily, even before teeth appear.
🦷 Once the first tooth comes in, brush twice a day with a tiny smear of fluoride toothpaste (about the size of a grain of rice).
👶 Schedule your child’s first dental visit by their first birthday or within 6 months of the first tooth erupting.
❤️ The best dental habits start early—and making it fun helps set them up for a lifetime of healthy smiles.

Our team takes a great deal of pride in our ability to care for patients who have had a particularly challenging dental history. Being able to change someone’s experience relative to seeing the dentist can be life changing.

Dr. Blake and his main dental assistant, Darrian, worked incredibly hard to provide ideal care for this great patient while still having a lot of fun in each appointment! As you can see, she knows we have a sweet tooth and brought us come custom dental themed cookies for our team.

Our family is beyond excited for patients in the Des Moines Metro to now have an opportunity for Dr. Kane Louscher to care for them.

Dr. Kane is Dr. Mike’s son, Dr. Blake’s brother, and Dr. Katie’s husband— too many of them to count, lol! This weekend the Louscher family celebrated his graduation as Chief Resident from the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at VCU’s hospital system in Richmond, Virginia. He is set to start patient care with the amazing surgical team at Oral Surgeons, P.C. this July.
