Athens Oral Surgery Center

Athens Oral Surgery Center Dr. Tomlinson, D.M.D., M.D. and his team are dedicated to transforming your smile.

At Athens Oral Surgery Center, we are dedicated to providing excellence in oral surgical care. Every decision we make and each interaction we have is based upon the principles of integrity and respect. We strive to stay on the cutting edge of technology and seek to incorporate innovative techniques into our procedures. We believe that every patient should receive personalized care by a knowledgeab

le, compassionate, and understanding staff. Athens Oral Surgery Center was founded in September of 2011 when Dr. Tomlinson took over the practice of much beloved oral surgeon, Dr. Stephen Fennell. Dr. Tomlinson immediately began redeveloping the practice to reflect his passions and goals. Since adopting new leadership, Athens Oral Surgery Center has seen a tremendous growth in the number of patients coming in for care as more and more patients recommend the practice to family and friends. Dr. Tomlinson’s unique background and training set him apart as an oral surgeon in Athens and northeast Georgia. Not only is Dr. Tomlinson a supremely qualified Dentist, graduating at the top of his class from Boston University School of Dental Medicine, he is also a certified Medical Doctor graduating from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Tomlinson’s medical degree truly sets him apart from other oral surgeons in the state of Georgia, as the majority do not hold dual degrees in medicine and dentistry. Youthfulness, energy, and accessibility are a few characteristics that patients appreciate about Athens Oral Surgery Center. Dr. Tomlinson firmly believes that he should be accessible to his patients and spends a considerable amount of face to face time with them during their appointments. His youthfulness and energy create a warm and inviting atmosphere that is both soothing and refreshing in a medical office setting. In addition to providing superior oral surgical care, Athens Oral Surgery Center is keenly focused on building lasting relationships within the community. Dr. Tomlinson supports the Athens Regional Foundation, the Athens Area Cancer Auxiliary, and he also also provides his services for patients with facial trauma at Athens Regional Medical Center. Athens Oral Surgery Center is a huge supporter of the University of Georgia sports teams and strives to be a vital part of the University of Georgia community.

Did you know your mouth can reveal a lot about your overall health?

It's easy to think of oral health as separate from the rest of your body, but research continues to show just how connected they really are.

In many cases, poor oral health can directly correlate to things like heart disease, diabetes, respiratory health, and bone health issues.

Taking care of your mouth and undergoing oral procedures when necessary is ultimately an investment in your whole body.

If your surgery day is coming up, are you prepared?

A little planning ahead goes a long way toward a smooth experience and a faster recovery. Here are 5 things to take care of before your procedure:

1️⃣ Arrange a ride. You won’t be able to drive yourself home after anesthesia. Line up a trusted friend or family member in advance.
2️⃣ Stock your kitchen. Load up on soft foods and cold drinks before your procedure so you're set when you get home.
3️⃣ Set up your recovery space. Have pillows ready to keep your head elevated, and gather your TV remote, phone charger, and anything else you'll want nearby.
4️⃣ Follow pre-op instructions. Dr. Tomlinson's team will give you specific guidelines (like when to stop eating or drinking). Follow his instructions carefully, because your recovery will go way smoother if you do.
5️⃣ Ask any questions. No question is too small. Reach out to our office before your appointment if anything is on your mind. We'd rather you feel confident going in!

Your AOSC team is with you every step of the way. 💙

Dental implants are often called the gold standard for tooth replacement, but have you ever wondered how they work?

Here's a simple breakdown:

The implant post: A small titanium post is placed into the jawbone, acting as an artificial tooth root.

Osseointegration: Over the next few months, your jawbone naturally fuses around the post, creating a stable, permanent foundation. (Yes, your bone actually bonds to the titanium!)

The abutment: Once healed, a small connector piece is attached to the post.

The crown: Finally, a custom-made crown that has been designed to match your natural teeth in shape and color is placed on top.

The result: A tooth that looks, feels, and functions just like the real thing. It can last a lifetime with proper care.

Dr. Tomlinson places implants with precision and expertise right here in Athens, GA. Schedule a consolation for a dental implant with our team today!

Ever been told you don't have enough bone for a dental implant? Bone grafting can change that.

When teeth are lost, the jawbone can shrink over time. A bone graft helps rebuild that foundation so implants have a stable base to anchor into.

It sounds intimidating, but it's a routine procedure here at Athens Oral Surgery Center, and it opens the door to a brand new smile.
