Food and drinks with low pH levels – acidic foods – temporarily soften the enamel of your teeth. If you immediately follow with brushing after consuming these food and drinks, you could remove some of your enamel. This makes your teeth more susceptible to decay over time. Delay brushing 30 to 60 minutes after you’ve had citrus fruits, soda, or other acidic things. For detailed care tips, contact us at (617) 489-1808.

Studies suggest that there is no difference between still water and carbonated water without additives, so although seltzer water is more acidic, it shouldn’t cause too much damage to your teeth if enjoyed in moderation. Keep your mouth healthy while drinking by ensuring you stay hydrated, swish water around your mouth, drink through a straw, and use a fluoride mouthwash after drinking acidic or sugary beverages. Call us at (617) 489-1808 for more tips and tricks to take care of your teeth!

Don’t forget to let us know if you’re pregnant at your appointment with us. Call us at (617) 489-1808 to inform us of any changes in your health.
