"How long is this going to take, and who is actually going to do it?"

Two fair questions, and you should get straight answers before you agree to anything.

Clear aligners: Dr. Ho plans them, monitors them and finishes them himself, here.

Single implants: the surgical placement is done by a specialist. The restoration — the crown that goes on top — is done here, and Dr. Ho plans it with you so the two halves line up.

Either way, a consultation tells you what your teeth need, what it costs, and what can wait.

If you have dental benefits left for the year, this is a good month to use them.

There's something you've been meaning to take care of.

You know the one. It's been on the list since spring.

Call us first either way. We're in-network with Cigna Total DPPO plans now — not all Cigna plans, so call and we'll check yours — and we take most other insurance too.

Here's the part most people miss: a lot of dental plans do run on the calendar year — but plenty don't. Some follow the employer's plan year, and that can start in any month. Nobody can tell you which one yours is from the outside.

The number on the back of your card can, in about two minutes. Or bring the card in and we'll look at it with you.

Either way, we'll tell you what you'll owe before you come in. No surprises. That part we can promise.

If you are ever unsure whether you actually need what we recommended - ask. Out loud, in the chair.

Dr. Ho would rather spend five minutes showing you the photo of your own tooth than have you say yes to something you cannot explain to your spouse in the car on the way home.

Asking is not being difficult. It is the point of the appointment.

And if the answer is that something can wait, you will hear that too.

A tooth that starts hurting at 9 PM does not care that it is Tuesday.

Chipped tooth, lost filling, swelling, or an ache that is keeping you up — call us first thing in the morning and we will work to get you in that day. Waiting through a weekend is how a filling turns into a root canal.

"Your benefits reset January 1." You hear it every December.

It's true for a lot of plans. It isn't true for all of them — plenty run on the employer's plan year, and that can start in any month. Nobody can tell you which one yours is from the outside.

Two things worth doing this month:
→ Call the number on the back of your card, or bring it in and we'll look at it with you. No charge, no commitment.
→ If you have a treatment plan sitting unfinished, October is when there's still room on the schedule. November and December fill up.

Either way, we'll tell you what you'll owe before you come in. That part we can promise.

We're now in-network with Cigna Total DPPO plans.

You don't have to call to find out what it means for you. Text a photo of your insurance card to (817) 281-2061. We'll verify it and call you with your number.

One honest note: Cigna runs more than one dental network, so this doesn't cover every Cigna plan. We'll tell you which one you're on before you book anything — you'll know what you'll owe before you come in.

"I just had x-rays taken somewhere else."

Then send them to us. We would rather read the ones you already paid for than repeat them.

Ask the other office to email them over before your visit. Most will send them the same day, and if they are recent and complete we will use them. When we do need to take new ones, it is because something has changed since then, and we will tell you why before we take anything.

That is one less reason to keep putting off finding a new dentist.

"It doesn't hurt, so it's fine."

A tooth that doesn't hurt can still be in trouble. Pain is a late signal, not an early one - and the two things that get expensive, gum disease and decay underneath an old filling, are quiet until they are advanced.

That's why we take pictures. So you can see it before you feel it.

If it has been a while since your last visit, that's the visit worth having. No lecture about how long it's been. That part we promise.
