If you've been in for an Age One visit or a regular checkup at Children's Choice, you've probably noticed: Dr. Jonelle Anamelechi, CEO & Founder, asks questions that don't sound very "dental." 👀

How is your child sleeping? Are they breathing through their nose or their mouth? How's bowel movement frequency? Any picky eating? Snoring? Bedwetting?

Here's why: teeth don't live in isolation. They're connected to the whole child. The mouth tells us about the airway. The airway tells us about sleep. Sleep affects behavior, focus, growth, and emotional regulation. And constipation? Often connected to mouth breathing and posture too.

We've trained our team to look at all of it — because once we see the pattern, we can connect you to the right ENT, pediatrician, feeding therapist, lactation consultant, or specialist in our trusted DMV network.

You're not just bringing your child to a dentist. You're plugging into a whole care team that talks to each other. 💛

If you've tried everything to get your child to stop sucking their thumb and nothing has worked, there may be a reason the habit won't break. You are not doing anything wrong.

For some children, thumb sucking is the body solving a problem. When the airway is narrow or partly blocked, the thumb can help hold the jaw and tongue in a position that makes breathing easier, especially at night. The thumb is doing a job, which is why bitter polish and reminders rarely work on their own.

Asking a child to stop means asking them to give up what is helping them breathe. When we look at the airway first and address what is making breathing harder, most children no longer need the thumb. The habit fades because the reason behind it is gone.

If this is the first time someone has connected your child's thumb sucking to how they breathe, that is exactly the conversation we want to have with you. Schedule a consult and we will walk you through what we see.

Happy Father's Day from all of us at Children's Choice Pediatric Dentistry.

We want to take a minute for the dads, the ones who hold a small hand on the way into the office and climb into the chair first so their child sees there's nothing to fear.

Here's what Dr. Jonelle Anamelechi notices in our Washington, DC office almost every week. A young child's first impression of the dentist comes largely from watching a parent.

When a dad stays calm, explains what's happening in plain words, and treats the visit as a normal part of the week, his child reads that as a signal that the chair is safe.

That early calm matters longer than one appointment. A child who learns at three that the dentist is a friendly place tends to grow into an adult who keeps up with their care instead of avoiding it. Dads are part of building that habit, often without realizing it.

So to the fathers in Washington, DC and New Carrollton helping us raise a generation of brave young patients, thank you.

If your family is looking for a pediatric dental home, this is a good season to begin. Call us when you're ready: 202-410-0088, or learn more at https://mychildrenschoicedental.digitalfloss.com/learnmore.

The smell of a typical dental office hits your nervous system before you've even sat down. The sharp antiseptic. The high-pitched whine of the drill. The cold clinical lighting. 😬

Your child feels that even more intensely than you do.

That's why Dr. Jonelle Anamelechi, CEO & Founder, designed Children's Choice from the ground up to be sensory-friendly. Warm lighting. Calming colors.

Music instead of mechanical sounds. The smell of cookies, not chemicals. Soft, welcoming spaces. A team trained in child development and behavior, not just dental procedures.

When a parent walks in for the first time and says, ""Wow — this doesn't even smell like a dental office,"" we know we've done our job. Their nervous system has already settled. And so has their child's.

For kids with sensory sensitivities, autism, anxiety, or just normal first-visit jitters, this environment changes everything. It's not a nice-to-have. It's how we make care possible. 💛

Things change. Team members move on. Technology evolves. Spaces get renovated. New providers join. 💛

But here's what doesn't change at Children's Choice Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics: our mission, our vision, and the core belief that drives every single decision we make — we want your child to thrive, not just survive.

Dr. Jonelle Anamelechi, CEO & Founder, is the steady, steadfast presence at the heart of this practice. For over 12 years, she has personally led every clinical and cultural decision in our New Carrollton and Washington, DC offices. She's the constant in a world that's always shifting.

So if you've been with us for one visit or ten years, here's what you can count on: the warmth, the whole-child philosophy, the judgment-free conversations, the long-term relationships, the way we treat your family like our own.

The space might look different. The team might grow. But the heart? That's never going anywhere. ✨

The five-year-old who declared she'd be a dentist? She wasn't bluffing. 💛

Before the degrees, before the two practices, before the thousands of little smiles — there was a little girl pulling teeth on the playground for 25 cents, certain of exactly who she'd become. She saw her own pediatric dentist and recognized herself in that chair. She said it out loud. And then she went and did it.

Today, Dr. Jonelle Anamelechi, CEO & Founder of Children's Choice Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, lives that dream in real life. Every child she welcomes through the door is a quiet "I told you so" to the girl who knew all along.

And maybe the sweetest part? Her own seven-year-old daughter trails behind her now — watching, learning, beaming with pride at the work being built. Full circle, one generation to the next. 🦷✨

Dreams declared in childhood don't always come true. But when they do — when heart, purpose, and persistence line up — they create something bigger than a career. They create a legacy of care.

You're brushing. You're flossing. You're cutting back on sugar. You're showing up for every checkup. And your child is still getting cavities. 😔

This isn't a parenting problem. It's a science problem.

Every child's mouth is biologically different — different bacteria, different saliva composition, different cavity risk levels. Generic advice doesn't work because no two mouths are the same.

That's why Children's Choice offers salivary testing. It's a simple, non-invasive test that tells us exactly what's happening in your child's mouth — which bacteria are present, what their individual risk level is, and what kind of plan will actually move the needle.

From there, Dr. Jonelle Anamelechi, CEO & Founder, builds a personalized oral health plan for your child. Not the same advice every family hears. Real answers, rooted in real data.

If you've been frustrated and confused, you're not alone — and there are answers no one has looked for yet. Let's find them together. 💛

Families have a lot more choices today than they did when we opened. I know that. And I think about it a lot.

Our response has always been the same: be the kind of practice families never want to leave.

That means the mission and the vision stay constant even when things change around us. Team members may transition. Technology evolves. The space gets redesigned. But the core of who we are and how we care for your family – that doesn't move.

I'm the steady presence. I'm the owner. And that means the values of Children's Choice are here, always.

When you bring your child here, you're choosing a practice that has been built around one idea for over a decade: we want your kids to thrive. Everything else flows from that.

Nine years. Six children. One practice that sees the whole child. 💛

When Elizabeth Roberts went looking for a dentist for her family, she wasn't just looking for someone to fill cavities. She wanted care that looked at the bigger picture — how to keep little teeth healthy from the very beginning, and how oral health connects to her children's overall wellbeing.

That's exactly the kind of care Dr. Jonelle Anamelechi built Children's Choice Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics around. Whole-child. Thoughtful. Never rushed.

And even when the whole crew walks through the door together, every family is met the same way — with warmth, patience, and a real conversation about what each child needs and the right order to do it in. 🪥✨

Because feeling welcomed matters. Being heard matters. And knowing your dentist is thinking about your child's health from every angle? That's the difference families feel here.

Thank you, Elizabeth, for trusting us with all six smiles. 🥰
