As dentists, one thing we always remind our patients is that cavities aren’t just about how well you brush.

Dry mouth is an often-overlooked factor in tooth decay. Your saliva does more than keep your mouth comfortable. It helps wash away food particles, neutralize harmful acids, and protect your enamel.
When your mouth isn’t producing enough saliva, your teeth can become more vulnerable to cavities, even if you’re consistent with your oral hygiene routine.

Dry mouth can be caused by medications, dehydration, mouth breathing, and certain health conditions.

If you’re noticing frequent cavities, persistent dry mouth, or waking up with a dry, sticky feeling, bring it up at your next dental visit.
