🦷✨ When Do Kids Start Losing Baby Teeth? ✨🦷

One of the most exciting childhood milestones is the first wiggly tooth! 😄🪥

Most children start losing their baby teeth around age 6–7, but every child is different (some start a little earlier or later—and that’s totally normal!).

Baby teeth usually begin to fall out in the same order they came in:
⭐ Front bottom teeth first
➡️ then the top front teeth
➡️ followed by the rest over time

👧👦 Most kids will lose all of their baby teeth by about age 12–13.

💛 Reminder for parents:
Even though they’re “baby” teeth, they play a BIG role in helping permanent teeth come in correctly—so keeping them healthy is important right up until they’re ready to wiggle out!

📞 Have questions about your child’s tooth timeline? We’re always happy to help!

🦷 Did you know not all cavities are the same?
Tooth decay can start on the surface, hide in deep grooves, affect the root, or progress deep into the tooth if left untreated. Catching decay early helps prevent pain, infection, and more extensive treatment. If you notice sensitivity or discomfort, give us a call—we’re here to help protect your smile! 😊

🦷✨ What Are Space Maintainers? (And Why Your Child Might Need One!) ✨🦷

Did you know that baby teeth are important space holders for the adult teeth growing underneath? 👶➡️🦷

If a baby tooth is lost too early due to a cavity, injury, or infection, the teeth next to it can slowly shift into the empty space. This may cause the adult tooth to come in crooked or get “stuck,” leading to crowding later on.

That’s where a space maintainer comes in! 🙌

✅ A space maintainer is a small dental appliance that helps hold the space open until the permanent tooth is ready to come in.

⭐ Benefits of a space maintainer:
• Helps guide adult teeth into the right spot
• Prevents shifting and crowding
• Can reduce the chance of needing braces later

Most kids get used to them quickly, and they’re a simple way to protect your child’s growing smile! 😁

🦷 Types of Tooth Fractures — Know the Difference!
Not all cracked or broken teeth are the same. Fractures can range from tiny surface cracks (craze lines) to deeper cracks that affect the tooth structure or nerve. Some may not hurt at first, while others can cause sensitivity, pain when chewing, or swelling. Early diagnosis is key to saving the tooth and avoiding more complex treatment. If something doesn’t feel right when you bite or chew, don’t ignore it—give us a call! 636-377-1233

👶🦷 Finger & Thumb Sucking in Young Kids — What Parents Should Know

Thumb or finger sucking is very common in babies and young children and is usually nothing to worry about at first. However, if the habit continues past age 3–4, it can begin to affect how the teeth and jaws develop.

Prolonged finger sucking may lead to:
• Crooked or protruding teeth
• Changes in bite alignment
• Speech concerns

💬 Parent tip: If you’ve noticed your child still finger sucking, let’s talk about it! Every child is different, and early guidance can help keep their smile on the right track.

📅 Bring it up at your child’s next visit or give us a call—we’re happy to help answer questions and share gentle, age-appropriate tips for breaking the habit. 😊

🦷 Why Regular Dental Visits Matter 🦷

Routine dental visits are about more than just keeping your smile bright — they play a key role in your overall health! During your appointment, we check for cavities, gum disease, oral cancer, and other issues that may not be visible or painful yet. Early detection helps prevent bigger problems and keeps treatment simpler and more affordable.

Regular cleanings also remove plaque and tartar that brushing and flossing can’t reach, helping to protect your teeth and gums long-term.

📅 If it’s been a while since your last visit, now is a great time to get back on track!
📞 Call us today to schedule your appointment — your smile will thank you!
