Here in Rhode Island as in most regions of the world, we are facing the challenges of a global pandemic due to the threat of the coronavirus (COVID-19). The rapidly evolving and continually updated amount of information has resulted in unprecedented actions taken to support and enhance our public health. On Friday, March 13, Governor Gina Raimondo announced a temporary closing of our RI Public Schools. This announcement followed some of the cooperative efforts taken worldwide by the sporting and entertainment industries, the colleges and academic institutions, and even Disney Parks to temporarily shut down and prevent large gatherings of individuals in a social environment. As the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) has described, this bold action taken to interrupt the community spread of the coronavirus is an important step in trying to lower the level of risk of exposure.
Much is still not known about COVID-19, but data collected from home and abroad is being interpreted to describe not only the modes of infectious transmission, but the related symptoms and the individuals most at risk from the severity of this disease.
In an abundance of caution, our dental practice has made the difficult decision to become part of the solution in these global efforts to eradicate the virus and its detrimental impact on the public health. We will take the proactive measures of temporarily closing our dental practice to all elective dental services. This includes our hygiene services as well as our wellness and preventative non-emergent dental services. This temporary disruption of service is planned for the next 14 days (starting Monday March 17) at which time we hope to have a better understanding of where we stand in our community with transmission and testing of the COVID-19 virus. As always we will be available for any dental emergencies you may encounter and we will continue to follow and exceed the recommendations for infection control practices put in place by the CDC and OSHA as described for the health and safety of all our patients and staff members.
We share with each of you the hopes that this uncertain health threat will quickly pass in the coming days, and we support all efforts to play our part as dental healthcare providers in protecting the health and well-being of everyone in our practice and our community.
Respectfully in Health,
