This past weekend I had the opportunity to spend some time at The Pankey Institute taking Direct Composite: Predictable, Easy and Beautiful with the amazing Dr. Lee A. Brady

Composite (tooth-colored filling material) is something every dentist
uses every day, but there is so much more to it than simply “doing a filling”.

We spent the course working through everything from adhesives and biomaterials to and material selection. How to decide what to use and when. We learned techniques for creating tight posterior contacts, anterior layering, staining, shaping and the small details that make restorations look like they actually belong in the mouth.

What I really enjoyed was being able to take those concepts from the lecture room straight into the hands-on portion and work through the techniques ourselves.

One of the things I continue to appreciate as I get further into my career is that there is always another level. Better materials. Better techniques. Better understanding of why we do what we do.

My goal is always to bring that knowledge back home and use it to provide dentistry that is as conservative, predictable and beautiful as possible for our patients.

Great couple of days at Pankey, brought plenty of new tips and tricks back home to add to the tool box 🦷

Ten years.
Today marks 10 years of me starting my practice ownership journey. 10 years ago I was just some kid moving to a new area trying to make a living and hopefully a name for myself.

Honestly, that's hard for me to wrap my head around. Know that as I type I am crying. It's surreal. There were times I never thought I'd get here.

July 1, 2026 marks 10 years since I started practicing dentistry in the Hudson Valley as Bright Smiles of Beacon. Wow.

Over the last decade, I've had the privilege of treating multiple generations of families, watching kids grow up, celebrating life milestones with patients, and building relationships that go far beyond dentistry.
There have been long days, difficult cases, continuing education courses, sleepless nights, early mornings, and plenty of lessons learned along the way. There have also been some incredible smiles. Incredible memories and connections made with clients I now feel like I have known forever.

Through it all, this community has trusted me with something incredibly personal. Your trust.
To every client, to all my team members, mentors, friends, and family member who have been part of this journey, thank you.

I'm proud of what we've built, but even more excited about what's ahead.

Here's to 10 years of serving the Hudson Valley, and hopefully many more to come.

❤️ 😢 Thank you for being part of the journey.

This past weekend I had the privilege of attending a 3-day course with Calin Pop and it was one of those experiences that really makes you appreciate how much detail goes into high-level dentistry.

Day 1 was lectures and demonstrations focused on biomimetic dentistry, rubber dam isolation, restorative workflows, and the philosophy behind predictable dentistry. A ton of little details that make a big difference clinically.

Day 2 was full hands-on dental photography, which definitely helped me step my photography game up even more. Lighting, framing, settings, portraits, close-ups… all the things that help tell the story of a case the right way.

Day 3 was full hands-on rubber dam isolation and learning how to create cleaner, more predictable dentistry in tougher restorative situations. The more I learn, the more I realize isolation changes everything.

Always grateful for opportunities like this to keep learning and sharpening the details, these little tips and tricks make all the difference!

Holly came in with sensitivity around an older failing MOD amalgam restoration.

Here’s the step-by-step:

First, we numbed and isolated the tooth with a rubber dam(the blue sheet).
This gives us a clean, controlled field to work in.

Next, we removed the old amalgam and started evaluating what was underneath.

Once the restoration was out, we could see the compromised tooth structure and fracture lines more clearly. Those areas were carefully removed until we had a cleaner, more stable foundation.

From there, the tooth was shaped for a bonded overlay.

After preparation, we air-abraded the tooth and went through our bonding protocol using Clearfil SE Protect. We then covered our bond with a thin layer of Majesty Flow. This concept is known as IDS (Immediate Dentin Sealing) & Resin Coating. This allows for maximum bond strength to dentin.

In the area where the tooth had shown the most fracture risk, we placed Ribbond to act as a stress breaker and help support the tooth moving forward.

That was then covered with another thin layer of flowable composite, and the tooth was temporized.

At the second visit, we isolated again, tried in the overlay, treated both the tooth and the restoration, and bonded everything into place.

The goal was to rebuild the tooth in a conservative way while improving strength, seal, and function.

Not every case is the same, but this is a great example of how isolation, proper bonding protocols, and a biomimetic approach can help us preserve and protect more natural tooth structure.

This past weekend I spent an incredible few days at Spear Education in Scottsdale for Ortho–Restorative Integration: From Planning to Practice.

This course was about connecting the dots
esthetics - function - ortho - restorative and actually making it all work together in real life.

We spent 3 days diving into Facially Generated Treatment Planning

• Using tools like iTero Lumina, Smile Architect, and ClinCheck to plan with intention
• Designing the end result first, then working backwards to get there
• Blending aligner therapy with restorative in a way that actually makes sense
• Communicating that vision to patients so they see it too

The biggest takeaway?
The future isn’t just Invisalign.
The future isn’t just restorative.
The future is integration.
No more “fix this tooth” thinking.
It’s full-picture, patient-centered, digitally driven treatment planning.

Grateful to learn from some incredible clinicians and be surrounded by people pushing dentistry forward.

Excited to bring some of this back to the office...
We’re just getting started.
