🌟We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Troy Van der Groen back to the East Bay, a Concord native. Following his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training, he served overseas in Japan aboard the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) and deployed twice in support of Pacific operations — experiences that deepened his surgical skill and commitment to care. After eight years of proud Active-Duty service in the U.S. Navy, Dr. Van Der Groen brings calm leadership and steady hands forged by real-world experience.
Dr. Van der Groens’ academic journey is exceptional: Doctor of Dental Medicine from Harvard School of Dental Medicine, study at UC Berkeley Haas School of Business, and did his residency at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. His clinical passions include orthognathic (corrective jaw) surgery, full-arch reconstruction, dental implants, wisdom tooth removal, bone grafting, and dentoalveolar surgery. We’re grateful he’s chosen to come home and join our team! Recently our practice Administrator/Study Club Coordinator Elaina joined Speaking Consulting Network for their beautiful 30th Anniversary Summit in Santa Barbara where she went to network with dental partners, vendors and connect with potential speakers. For those who don’t know, Elaina, in her spare time, is president of the Contra Costa Dental connection who she leads alongside Vice President Lisa Maurer (Office Manager of WC Dentist) who joined her on this wonderful trip. Together they celebrated this meaningful milestone with an incredibly inspiring community. The five-hour drive, stunning vistas, and laughter made the trip unforgettable, and a beachfront welcome dinner hosted by Max Assist felt like a reunion. Over the weekend they both reconnected with old friends, made new ones, and soaked up SCN’s rich history and the legacy Linda Miles began all within a culture that lifts every member up. The SOS presentations were powerful and judges’ feedback was thoughtful. The gala sparkled with glam, music, and celebration, and Ryan Vet’s message about the “Three G’s: Grinding, Giving, and Growing” perfectly captured the spirit of SCN. Looking back in three words: Grateful. Inspired. Excited. Here’s to more growth, support, and joy with this amazing community! We cannot wait to take all we gleaned there to our personal practices and share it with our dental community.
