Recap of Kūpuna & Moʻopuna: Celebrating Our Community

Last Wednesday, we hosted Kūpuna & Moʻopuna: Celebrating Our Community as part of National Health Center Week.

It was a meaningful morning on the WCCHC Makai Lawn, bringing kūpuna, moʻopuna, families, and community members together for culture, learning, and hands-on activities. Guests participated in lauhala weaving, lei hulu, lomilomi, and other cultural demonstrations led by WCCHC’s Native Hawaiian Healing Center and Ha Ola Mau.

The morning also featured a locally sourced food demonstration by Chef Chris Fujimoto of WCCHC’s ʻElepaio Social Services, highlighting the connection between food, health, culture, and community.

Mahalo to our staff, cultural practitioners, partners, volunteers, and everyone who joined us for this special celebration of our community.

🌺Recap of Ola Pono: Health & Wellness Day.🌺

Last Tuesday, we celebrated Ola Pono: Health & Wellness Day, as part of National Health Center Week.

It was an exciting expansion beyond our weekly Tuesday Mākeke event. Families visited the WCCHC Makai Lawn for health information, free blood pressure screenings by NP residents, Narcan education, Medicaid, SNAP, WIC, housing resources, fresh local produce at Mākeke ʻIki, and live music by Uncle Kimo.

Mahalo to our staff, partners, vendors, and everyone who helped make this event possible for our West Oʻahu community.

🌺 Recap of Mele Mahalo – A Patient Appreciation Event 🌺

Last Monday, we kicked off National Health Center Week with Mele Mahalo: A Patient Appreciation Event, bringing more than 1,400 members of our community together for a special evening celebrating our patients and ohana. 🤙🏽

It was a beautiful evening on the Waianae Coast filled with ono food, live local music by Chardonnay and Hana Boy, local craft vendors, a community resource fair, keiki activities, and a showing of Live-action Moana under the stars, courtesy of Starlight Children’s Foundation.

Our keiki also received free backpacks and school supplies to help them get ready for the new school year, while families had the opportunity to tour our WCCHC Mobile Dental Clinic and learn more about the care we bring directly into our communities.

We were also honored to welcome Paloma Hernandez, Chair of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHc), to the Waianae Coast to celebrate alongside our community.

A big mahalo to our generous sponsors who helped make Mele Mahalo possible: Papa Ola Lokahi, AlohaCare, NACHC, Hawaii Dental Service Foundation, Kamehameha Schools, and the Office of Senator Samantha DeCorte.

Most of all, mahalo to our patients, families, and everyone who came out to spend the evening with us. We are grateful for your continued trust and proud to serve our Waianae Coast and West Oahu ohana with aloha. 🌺

Today, we honor the life and legacy of our longtime Board Member, Billie Hauge, a beloved and respected member of our community.

For 18 years, Billie faithfully served on the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center Board of Directors, helping guide our Health Center with integrity, compassion, and a deep sense of kuleana. She was a steadfast advocate for our patients and community, always helping ensure that the voices and needs of those we serve remained at the heart of our work.

Billie embodied the spirit of aloha through her service, humility, and enduring commitment to the Waianae Coast. Her legacy will continue to be felt throughout WCCHC and the community she cared for so deeply.

On behalf of the WCCHC Board of Directors, Leadership Team, and WCCHC ohana, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Billie’s family and loved ones.

We honor Billie’s 18 years of dedicated service and the lasting impact she made on WCCHC and our community. Her legacy of leadership, service, and aloha will continue to inspire us.
