The chewing surfaces of molars have tiny grooves where food and bacteria hide. Toothbrush bristles cannot reach the bottom of these grooves. Cavities form there quickly, especially in children and teens.

Dental sealants are a thin plastic coating. Our team paints the sealant onto the chewing surface, and it flows into every groove.

A special light hardens the material into a protective shield. As long as the sealant stays intact, the sealed groove cannot decay.

The process takes a few minutes per tooth. Patients stay comfortable without shots or drilling.

Choosing sealants means stopping cavities before they start.

Waking up with a headache or sore jaw is not normal.

Many patients grind their teeth at night without any memory of doing it. The pressure strains jaw muscles and wears down enamel over time.

Our team checks for cracked teeth, muscle tenderness, and bite alignment during routine exams. A custom fitted nightguard creates a barrier between upper and lower teeth. The guard absorbs the force of clenching so your jaw can rest.

Ignoring chronic grinding leads to broken teeth and lasting jaw pain.

A simple evaluation stops the cycle before damage gets worse.

πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ 5 Marathons. 5 Days. One Community.

This week, I am taking on one of the biggest physical challenges I’ve ever attempted: running 5 marathons in 5 consecutive days across Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York.

As many of you know, I enjoy running, but I wanted this challenge to be about more than just miles and finish lines.

Wahpeton Family Dentistry is proud to donate $3,000 to the Richland/Wilkin Food Pantry to help support the incredible work they do for individuals and families throughout our community.

A special thank you to Sharon Bladow and everyone involved with the food pantry for their dedication and service.

This marathon series is also part of a much bigger personal goal. Over time, I hope to complete a marathon in all 50 states. If this week’s challenge goes well, I’d love to turn future races into even larger community fundraising opportunities.

Throughout the week, I’ll be posting daily updates on the races, travel, recovery, successes, struggles, and everything in between.

Thank you to our patients, team members, family, and community for your support. Follow along this week as we see if this dentist can survive 131 miles in 5 days! ⚑️

Drugstore whitening strips only brighten the top surface of your teeth. Deeper stains from coffee, tea, or aging stay behind.

That is why results fade so quickly!

Our professional whitening uses stronger medicine that reaches below the enamel. We also protect your gums from irritation during the treatment.

The whole process takes about an hour in our office. Patients leave with teeth that are visibly whiter, not just slightly brighter.

The difference is simple. Store kits cover up. Clinical whitening cleans out.

Your smile deserves the real thing.

Parents often ask us when teeth should appear.

Lower central incisors typically break through between six and ten months. Upper front teeth follow within a few months. By three years old, most children have a full set of twenty primary teeth.

The first permanent molars arrive around age six. These do not replace any baby teeth. They emerge behind the existing ones. If your child has no teeth by twelve months or loses a tooth too early, an evaluation helps.

Our team tracks eruption patterns during routine visits. Timelines vary, but medical guidance gives parents peace of mind.

If in doubt, don’t hesitate to contact us!

Some dental issues can wait for a scheduled appointment. Others require immediate attention.

Take a look:

βœ… A permanent tooth knocked out of its socket has the best chance of survival if we see you within 60 minutes.

βœ… Swelling that spreads to your eye or neck suggests an infection reaching deep tissues.

βœ… Pain that keeps you awake or continues despite ibuprofen or acetaminophen indicates nerve involvement or abscess formation.

A cracked filling or lost crown can typically wait a few days. Bleeding, trauma, or severe pain cannot.

Our office handles true emergencies promptly.

Prevention works because problems grow slowly. A small spot of decay takes months to reach the nerve. Plaque buildup hardens into tartar that irritates gums for years before bone loss begins.

Our team removes that buildup during a routine cleaning. We also spot early cavities on X rays when fillings are small and simple. Waiting until something hurts means the solution becomes more complex, more expensive, and more time consuming.

Patients who schedule twice yearly visits avoid most emergency appointments.

A cleaning feels easy. The alternative does not.

All it takes is a few minutes to take the first step towards your dental health.

A toothbrush cleans the front, back, and chewing surfaces. The spaces between your teeth remain untouched by bristles. Plaque builds up in those gaps and turns into tartar within 48 hours.

Floss physically scrapes that film away. The mechanical action matters more than the type of floss you use. Slide the strand between each tooth and curve it against the side. One thorough pass per day prevents decay where your brush cannot go.

Our patients who floss regularly have fewer cavities and healthier gums.

Start with the teeth you want to keep.

Saliva washes away food particles and neutralizes harmful acids. When you drink less water, saliva production slows down. Bacteria then multiply faster and acid attacks last longer.

Patients who sip water throughout the day have lower cavity rates. Plain water also contains no sugar or acids, unlike soda or coffee. This simple habit supports your mouth's natural cleaning system.

Our team sees the difference hydration makes during routine cleanings. A dry mouth feels uncomfortable, but the real problem is what happens underneath.

Drinking water regularly gives your saliva the help it needs to protect your teeth and gums.
