Biomimetic dentistry allows for preservation of natural tooth structure adding to long term dental health.
In this case, the metal filling was worn out allowing bacteria into the tooth and causing decay. Instead of a dental crown a restoration was chosen to replace the unhealthy portions of the tooth “mimicking” the natural tooth structure and preserving the healthy portions of the tooth that remain.
