During my fellowship at the NIH, I saw a young patient who traveled from Europe and was still undiagnosed. A careful physical exam revealed multiple mucosal neuromas on the tongue and lips — a classic clue to MEN2B, a rare syndrome associated with medullary thyroid cancer and pheochromocytoma. This case was a powerful reminder that sometimes the diagnosis isn’t hidden in labs or imaging — it’s right in front of us if we take the time to look. We published this case in British Medical Journal.
