Come with me through a professional whitening appointment! 🦷

Every step matters from recording the initial shade and taking photos to carefully protecting the gingiva before applying the whitening gel.

In this appointment, I’m using Opalescence Boost by Ultradent, a 40% hydrogen peroxide in-office whitening gel. I take extra care with the gingival barrier, thoroughly mix the gel, and apply it precisely to ensure complete and controlled coverage.

For me, professional whitening isn't just about the final shade. It's about technique, tissue protection, and creating a great experience for every patient.

After about 40–45 minutes, we achieved an immediate improvement of approximately 1.5–2 shades, followed by take-home Opalescence Advanced trays to continue the whitening process.

Not all tooth discoloration is the same—and not every smile should be whitened the same way.
When a patient tells me, “I just want my teeth whiter,” one of the first things I look at is why the teeth are discolored.
Intrinsic discoloration comes from within the tooth, and it can be associated with things like:
✨ Fluorosis
✨ Tetracycline staining
✨ Changes in non-vital teeth
✨ Aging
✨ Developmental enamel conditions
✨ Existing or defective restorations
And here's why that matters: these cases don't all respond to whitening the same way.
Some may whiten beautifully but require more time. Tetracycline staining, for example, can require a very different whitening approach than typical age-related yellowing. Existing crowns, veneers, and fillings also will not whiten like natural tooth structure, which needs to be considered before treatment begins.
That’s why at The Whitening Shop®, we don't believe in simply putting whitening gel on every smile and hoping for the best.
The first step to a whiter smile is understanding what caused the discoloration in the first place.

✨ Think whitening is ONLY about making teeth whiter? Look at this!

White and brown spots can make a smile appear uneven—but sometimes the first step in improving their appearance is simply professional whitening.
Whitening can help brighten the surrounding tooth structure and, in some cases, significantly reduce the contrast between areas of discoloration and the rest of the tooth. Every case is different, which is why I always evaluate the entire smile before deciding what treatment comes next.
And here's something important: we don't always need to jump immediately to bonding, veneers, or more invasive treatment.
For some patients, whitening alone can create a beautiful improvement. For others, whitening may be the first step before treatments such as resin infiltration, microabrasion, or restorative dentistry.
At The Whitening Shop®, our goal isn't just to make teeth white. It's to understand why the discoloration is there and determine the most conservative approach to improving the smile.
